IDAR car

You what? In car hire speak, an intermediate four door automatic with a/c. I've hired several of these in America. All have been 2.4 litre petrol cars with four speed automatic box and a high level of driver boredom. No more thanks.

umm... we don't call those 'trucks' here in the states. Well, some might, but it's not the norm. The driver is called a 'trucker', but the vehicle is called a 'Semi' or a 'Tractor-trailer.'

This is a truck:

That having been said, I would love to try driving a Semi. Those things are beasts.

I have always thought trucks with lasers, machine gun, and shit are pretty awesome.

Been there in an IDAR. Didn't need 150 bhp, never mind 707.

To paraphrase the late GB Shaw, America and the rest of the English speaking world are separated only by a common language.

Here, this is a semi. Telling people you can drive one would cause furrowed brows.

A large commercial vehicle is a truck or lorry according to taste. A bendy one is an artic, as in articulated. A pick up, which isn't a big thing commercially as most people use vans, is a pick up or maybe a jeep.

They make cars with 150hp?

Sure do, depending where you live. The vast majority of the Ford range (in Europe) has less than 150 bhp. Models with more than this are offered for sale, which is slightly different from actually being sold.

Fascinating, I had no idea that's what a semi was in the UK. We would call that a Condo or Duplex. I forgot to mention the other thing we call them here: Big Rigs. Trucks (like the Ford F-series) are also called 'pickups'; that's generally more of a 'hick slang'. Jeep is a household brand name, and only Jeeps are called Jeeps. All others are called SUVs or CUVs. A 'pickup' or 'truck' has to have an open bed.
